Big Shoal Farm Sunflower Field
This free, small farm is open to the public and located at the Atkins-Johnson Farm and Museum in Gladstone. Customers can walk the field and cut their own sunflowers. Attend the free Big Shoal Farm Sunflower Field Festival on August 16, 2025 from 9 AM - 3 PM! Take photos, pick your own flowers, and enjoy free activities at this yearly event.

Gieringer’s Family Farm
A family owned and operated farm on the south side of the Kansas City metro, Gieringer’s offers u-pick sunflowers, zinnias, berries, peaches, apples, and pumpkins! Check their Facebook page for up-to-date information on what is in season to pick at the farm. Sunflowers will begin in August and then another round during the pumpkin season.

Grinter Farms
These are a local favorite! They typically bloom in early September, but keep an eye on their Facebook page for the most up-to-date information. These gorgeous flowers are free to come and view, and you can leave a donation at the designated boxes. People can flock here so be mindful of others, where you park your car, and take care not to damage the fields. Afternoons and evenings can draw a crowd, especially on the weekend.
Professional photographers need a permit and picking sunflowers is not allowed.

Johnson Farms Plants and Pumpkins
One of the best places to enjoy fall from August through October in the Kansas City area! Johnson Farms offers everything you want in a Midwest farm experience: u-pick sunflowers, zinnias, apples, pumpkins, and veggies. Plus, they have a wonderful outdoor kids play area with slides, a corn pit, outdoor play place, bounce houses, and more. Grab a donut and cider while you’re there and be sure to pick up their huge, gorgeous mums!

KC Pumpkin Patch Sunflower Festival
Another wonderful location if you’re looking for the full fall experience! KC Pumpkin Patch has a pumpkin season naturally, but you’ll want to check out the Sunflower Festival in August to see the beautiful flowers before they’re gone! Opening Friday- Sunday for three weekends August 8 - 10, August 15 - 17, and August 22 - 24, 2025. Purchase tickets online to attend Sunflower Festival where you’ll also get access to the mega slide, outdoor activities, photo ops, delicious food, lawn games, and more.

Shively Farms
A small farm just south of Topeka, KS! While this is outside of the Kansas City metro, people love the beautiful sunflower field for photos and u-pick sunflowers. There is a suggested donation of $1 per sunflower. Flowers typically bloom in late July through August. Check Facebook for the most up-to-date information!
